How to Create

App Content Creation: An Overview

Creating a complete content package for your app consists of the following steps. They do not necessarily have to occur in the order that follows.

  • Creating your app shell
  • Creating two language groups and adding them to your app shell
  • Creating a set of activity instructions for each language group
  • Creating lessons and adding them to the language groups
  • Creating a series of slides and adding them to lessons

When these steps are complete, you will have a content ready for an app that can hold groups of language-specific multi-slide lessons.

Detailed Assembly Instructions

Detailed steps are discussed below. Note: For versions of the Vernacular app used in the BASA 2017 pilot, please refer to this page for creating content.

Creating an App Shell

Create one app shell for each app.

  1. Give your app a title.
  2. Select your project.
  3. Add two lesson groups — one for each language.
  4. Once your app package is created, a link to the app screen will be visible on your team's homepage.
  5. On the app screen, write down the app ID near the top - you will enter this into your app when you download your content.

Creating Language Groups

These are bundles of lessons in a specific language.

Currently an app can hold two language groups.

You will need to create one language group for each language and then create lessons for each language group.

Creating Activity Instructions

In each language group, add one set of generic instructions for each type of activity. These instructions are simply text-audio pairs.

Creating Lessons

Language groups contain multiple lessons.

After clicking on the language in the app, a menu of these lessons will show up.

Create a lesson for a given language group using the link below.

Creating Slides

There are different types of slides to choose from, each with a unique layout and specific functionality.

You can create individual slide types using the links below.

Before creating your slides, please review the file naming conventions on the Best Practices page.

Once you have created your slides, add them to your lesson.
